Mark Welsh Holwager

Growing up with an attorney-parent practicing elder law, and subsequently embracing the opportunity to work together with my dad, has provided me with a unique perspective and foundation for my practice, and the administration of the H&H, P.C. firm.  Our team collaborates with clients encountering issues in the areas of estate & trust planning and administration, long term care funding solutions, and real estate matters.  From creating Wills for parents with minor or disabled children, to locating an appropriate care venue and payment source for an elderly individual, our client’s needs are often both emotionally and legally challenging, and we meet them with accurate guidance, delivered with compassion.  I consider myself fortunate to work alongside knowledgeable and caring attorneys and support staff who share these aspirations for client service.

After graduating from Roncalli High School in Indianapolis, I had my heart set on becoming a pastor, and I obtained my B.A. from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, majoring in religious studies. Returning to Indianapolis thereafter, I was looking for a summer job, and my dad was looking for a typist!  At around 100 words / minute (I’m not so fast anymore) he hired me. . . and I never left.  Fortunately for both of us, I gained a deeper understanding of the wisdom and skill of my father, Bill and grandfather, Joe, and found what a wonderful ministry takes place in service to others in the elder law field.

While clerking at dad’s law office, I attended law school at Indiana University in Indianapolis (McKinney) and served as the school liaison to the Elder Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA). Several years thereafter, I again served the section in various roles on its administrative board, and as the chair for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.  To-date, I remain an active member with the ISBA Elder Law Section and with the National and Indiana Chapters of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, (NAELA) having served a 2 year tenure as a Board member for IN-NAELA, and where I presently serve on its GPAC committee.

While I provide daily counsel on elder law topics to clients, I equally enjoy frequent opportunities to present to other colleagues through programs with the Indiana University McKinney School of Law, the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum (ICLEF), and various community & non-profit organizations.

My wife Laralyn and I are the proud parents of Edward & George.  We enjoy living on Indy’s south side and sharing our home with many four-legged furry friends.
